The ONZi Journey
From start to finish …we’ve got you!
Just the thought of surgery can be overwhelming, never mind travelling out of the country for surgery. We understand this, and we’ll assist you, from start to finish, with the organization of your ONZi journey.
An ONZi journey is organized as a package:

• You must arrive at least 2 days before surgery
• All flights are over and above the surgical package cost
• Assistance is provided in the planning of arrival/departure dates & you will be linked with a travel agent
• Passports with at least 6 months remaining to their expiration date are required

• We will provide you with the necessary wire transfer details & link you with a money exchange company
• ATMs are available and credit cards are accepted, in Germany

Patient: 3 meals/day, commencing on hospital admission through to the final day at the MEDICOS Rehab facility, are included in the surgery package cost.
Support Partner(s): Meals are an out-of-pocket expense while the patient is in hospital. The hospital cafeteria and local restaurants are available at an out-of-pocket cost.

Transportation is organized & provided:
• from DUS Airport to the 1st hotel
• to/from the pre-op appointment
• to the hospital (admission)
• to the Medicos AufSchalke Rehab Center, following hospital discharge
• to/from a final check-up with your surgeon
• to DUS Airport on your departure date
Itinerary

The 1st Hotel: The Plaza Hotel, Hochlarmarkstrasse 66, Recklinghausen, 45661
• The ONZi driver will meet you at the Dusseldorf Airport and transport you to your hotel.
• The ONZi team will book this accommodation for you & your support person, but it is an out-of-pocket cost to be paid at the time of check-out (credit cards are accepted)
• Both patient and support person will stay at the Plaza Hotel (patient pre-hospital admission, and support person, while your loved one is hospitalized)
• Hotel and meal costs are NOT included within the surgery package for either the patient or support partner.

• The ONZi driver will collect the patient at the hotel and provide transport to all scheduled preoperative appointments.
• An appointment agenda will be provided before you depart for Germany, including the ONZi driver’s pick-up time and meeting location.
• The patient must check out of the hotel and take all belongings with them, as hospital admission will occur immediately following the pre-op visit with the surgeon.
• A pre-operative appointment with the anesthesiologist is arranged following admission.
Hospital: The Elisabeth Krankenhaus. Röntgenstrasse 10. Recklinghausen, Germany. 45661
• You will have a semi-private hospital room with a washroom
• Only international (English-speaking) patients will share a room
• One support partner MAY be allowed to overnight (sleep in a chair) in the hospital for the first night after surgery.

• On your day of hospital admission you will be notified as to where you fall on the day’s surgery slate.
• Feel welcome to speak to the nurses about something to calm your nerves for the day of surgery, if necessary
• You should be up walking within 24 hours

HOSPITAL DISCHARGE:
• A rehab driver will collect the support partner(s)/patient for transport to the Stays by Friends hotel
• Hotel/MEDICOS AufSchalke Rehab Center, in Gelsenkirchen, is where you will stay for the remainder of the journey (rehab)
2nd Hotel: The Stays by Friends Hotel:
• The patient’s hotel room & meals are included in the surgery package
• If a support person accompanies the patient and shares hotel accommodations, their hotel cost/meals are included in the surgery package cost
• All additional support persons will book and pay out-of-pocket for their accommodations and meals
The Medicos AufSchalke Rehab Center: (rated Europe’s #1 rehab center)
• Rehabilitation and physiotherapy are provided daily, Monday – Saturday (except German Holidays)
• You will have a personalized rehab program based on your healing, i.e., lymphatic/muscle/scar tissue massage; physiotherapy
• You will have daily follow-ups with a Rehab doctor/nurse, i.e., wound healing, and medication adjustments

• Rehabilitation and physiotherapy are provided daily, Monday – Saturday (except German Holidays)

Final Check-up:
• The ONZ driver will transport you to/from a final appointment with your surgeon, before your departure home
Departure Day:
• The ONZ driver will collect you 3 hours before your departure flight, in the lobby of the hotel entrance, and transport you to the Dusseldorf airport
• The Rehab staff will provide you with all taxi pick-up details
